Communal Farm to Table Event at Communal Restaurant

For those of you who missed our farm to table event earlier this month, don’t worry, we are hosting another! This upcoming event will be at Communal Restaurant on September 28, featuring a set menu based on local produce. Reservations can be made by calling Communal and for any available time between 5-9pm. Dinner is $42/person.

Come join us for an elegant evening outdoors under glowing lights surrounded by a canopy of trees and flowers as we invite you to experience a menu inspired by an end of summer harvest! Our local chefs at Communal + Heirloom Restaurant Group are experts in bringing the freshest ingredients to the table in creative and unique ways. We are thrilled that we are able to host this event and be able to bring the community together through local food, local farmers and local chefs. Dinner is $60/person. Space is limited. To reserve a space please call Sun River Gardens at 801-229-1975 or sign-up in person. The Reservation Fee is due upon RSVPing. Dale Allred’s Heirloom Tomatoes

If there is anybody who can grow the most delicious tomatoes, it is Dale Allred. Delivering over 30 varieties of heirloom tomatoes weekly to Heirloom Restaurant Group, it is incredible to be able to taste the difference between each variety and see how different a simple tomato can be. They are so good, that we have a hard time using any other tomatoes when they aren’t in season, so we don’t even try. Currently on the Pizzeria 712 and Communal menus, we are offering two very different and very delicious tomato salads, both for a very limited time only while these tomatoes are in season.

Left (Communal): Dave Allred’s heirloom tomatoes with Sugar Sweet Farms watermelon, served with fresh burrata and basil puree.

Right (Pizzeria 712): Dave Allred’s heirloom tomatoes with fresh handpulled mozzarella, balsamic vinaigrette, olive oil, and finished with basil from La Nay Ferme.

Menu Changes over at Pizzeria 712

Summer is in full swing here at Pizzeria 712, dishing up local fare of beets, tomatoes, and asparagus. One of our fastest changing times of the year, when we get so excited about all the fresh goodness coming in from local farms, you will just have to come in on a weekly basis to keep up with our menu. Recent editions of our menu have included new pizzas, revamped little bites, and even some new desserts to save room for.

Remodeling at Communal by Handcraft Concrete Design

We recently got a new sink over at Communal, thanks to Brian Thompson of Handcraft Concrete Design. It’s a locally made beautiful handmade bathroom sink made from concrete, Come in to Communal and check it out, as well as his recent work on his Instagram. His home designs range from sinks to tables, so if you are looking to remodel or some beautiful pieces for your home, he would be a great option for beautiful and unique concrete pieces.

May Menu Changes at Communal

Spring has always been my favorite. It starts off with the first signs of life in the form of asparagus, then shows itself off in the form of fennel and leeks, only to blossom into summer’s bounty too full to possibly be able to consume. Pizzeria 712 is already jumping into asparagus heaven, serving a roasted asparagus appetizer and putting those delicious green spears on a pizza paired with pistachios, red onions, and parmesan cheese. In the meantime, at Communal, spring is manifesting itself through pork cuts and skirt steaks. Radishes placed in salads, leeks paired and served alone, Communal has made a few noteworthy menu changes to keep up with the fresh spring selects coming in.

What a year—it’s hard to believe that 2014 is coming to a close! It’s been a wonderful year with many exciting changes and challenges. Thinking back on 2014, we wanted to share some highlights.

In 2014 we celebrated Communal‘s 5th anniversary! Chef Newman came on board and we introduced new traditions like our Farm-to-Table dinners. To celebrate 5 years, we upgraded several pieces of kitchen equipment and small wares to the delight of back of house and service staff alike.

Communal was also one of several Provo restaurants featured by Becky & Josh Rosenthal in their cookbook “Salt Lake City Chef’s Table: Extraordinary Recipes from the Crossroads of the West.” It was exciting to work with them and to see their many months of photographing, tasting, testing, and researching bound into a beautiful volume that celebrates the food and talent of our area!

At Mountain West Burrito, we painted and primed and made minor renovations to our interior of the Provo store (including a mural by local Utah artists), partied for Cinco de Mayo, introduced street tacos to our menu, and have enjoyed having Waffle Love as our new neighbors.

Throughout the year we worked with organizations and causes in our local community or that hit close to home in other ways—Community Action Services, Share Our Strength, and Downtown Provo. During the summer we partnered with Downtown Provo to put on a second year of Fresh Wednesdays.

 

We are excited to celebrate the new year with you and to see what 2015 will bring!

We are accepting reservations at Communal for New Year’s Eve. That evening we will serve a fixed four-course menu for $65/person, with an optional wine pairing.

First Course
